dance dance revolution

Got far too drunk too early last night. We were dancing in the lounge when - WHOOP - one of the dudes took his shirt off and  - WHOOP - then the other one did, too. The Rolling Stones played on and boy of boy did we twist. Hats were stolen, shoes came off. Don't worry, us girls stayed fully clothed. Today I went round to that house to have a sun bathe and - WHOOP - someone had hung their camera from a light fixture and filmed the entire toplessshakeytwistydance party. It was twenty minutes long and didn't even capture the whole thing. I feel no remorse.

a fowl feast

On Saturday night I ate Turducken. It was grotesque, a bulging avian feast. An alien bird, a fowl set of engorged matroyshka dolls. So fatty, so totally American, the Turducken epitomizes conspicuous consumption. After spending eight hours in the oven, the outer layer of turkey was dyed a shiny vermilion by the rashers of streaky bacon which had hardened on top. The bacon fat moistened the turkey, the turkey flavoured the duck, the duck fat spread through the chicken. The parsons nose crystallised into a hardened knob, a savoury lindt ball that the birds' juices exploded from, gushing into my mouth. We tore at the meat, picked it off the bones and doused it with gravy, then basked in a post-Turducken afterglow. I felt food-high, fat and sleepy. Giggling uncontrollably, we could not stop talking about the Turducken. It was medieval, primal, ridiculous. Can you believe we ate that? A turkey with a duck with a chicken in it? The mind reels.

one night stand

Best Weekend Ever!

In the wee hours of Saturday morning I flew out to Auckland for two of my bestest friends' engagement party, it was so much fun!! I got to experience the joys of international travel with only carry on! I didn't even take a pair of flats (eat your heart out sea of shoes)! I had a blast 'DJ'ing and dirty dancing with my beautiful friend Natalie and drank far too much chamagne. Actually, too much bubbles, not enough champagne... Someone told me I look tanned! I got to see so many of my favourite people all in one place and also made some new friends! My feet hurt! I'm exhausted! But it was worth it, thanks so much to the lovely Kate and Scott for such a wonderful party, and as usual the hospitality, and now I CAN'T WAIT for the wedding!

yay

Happy weekend!

It's pretty dismal outside, and I've had a pretty dismal week to be honest, but I'm still rather excited about two days off.

There's a music festival tomorrow that I've been rather vague and ambivalent about, much to the chagrin of my enthusiastic friends (one has 11 house guests coming from, another lined up hours for tickets, and all of my workmates under 30 looked positively aghast when I said I'd gotten the weekend off for this but didn't have a ticket and wasn't really in the market for one).

However a ticket has materialised, at the last minute, and now I need to work on turning the ambivalence to enthusiasm. It shouldn't be so hard seeing how little effort I put into this and when I know that it will likely end up being lots of fun...

So rather than being the grinch who stole Parklife, I'm going to do my best to get a decent night's sleep this evening and wake up on the right side tomorrow.

Saving the gumboots for Meredith (which I'm actually quite looking forward to), the question is now of appropriate footwear.

It probably won't look like this.

Sometimes it's impossible to explain how much you love your friends.

OK SO

On Saturday night I went out to dinner with my old old old friends at this fabulous Japanese place called Nishiki which is a silly but delicious place in Freemans bay. We drank a bottle of wine or two and wound up returning to their flat for more wine, stopping for ice cream on the way.

We got to the flat, sat at the dinner table and had that whole girl talk thing that has to happen when you hang out with people you've been buddies with for 10 years, lots of talk of sex and shit and periods (not in that order, well, actually, kind of in that order. But not together. We're gross, but that's fine).

Then all of a sudden we started jumping in a circle to Paparazzi
by Lady Gaga, which might be the best song of all time, doing that crutches dance that she does so well in the video. We were all giggly and turned off the lights and then someone pulled out a couch cover and threw it on top of us (we were planning on going to a ghost themed party later, this was a costume idea)and put on that godawful song by the Black Eyed Peas with the "GO OUT AND SMASH IT (SMMMAAASH ITTT) LIKE OH MY GOSH" lyric in it and we totally went nuts.

All of us were jumping under this couch cover, falling over, stumbling about and screaming out the lyrics when some shit of a neighbour called noise control. On seven girls. At eleven on a Friday night. Apparently, this might have had something to do with Cat yelling obscenities at the neighbour's child earlier in the evening but who are we to know? All I know is that the noise control man let us off easy and looked suitably embarrassed by the situation.

So after that we finished the song, called a mini van and mished off to find this ghostly party. The taxi driver SUCKED but it was OK - we found the party, got under our couch cover, and entered the party en masse.

Unfortunately, it was the wrong party. In fact, it was some chick's 21st that we crashed, they all seemed to hate us, apart from the boys out the front who posed for photos with us. So we made a quick escape, pulled over a nice young man who got out his map and gave us directions. I also messaged my flatmate who was at the actual party for directions. He said he would yell my name, and we should follow the sound.

So, we made it to the Ghost party. Finally. One of us fell over on top of some dude who threw her into a wall. Luckily Bex was there to punch him in the face: "I AM A PHYSIOTHERAPIST ! I KNOW HOW TO HURT YOU!". Another one disappeared to pash a hot random.

Eventually, we went home.

inspiration

My recent house move and impending birthday has provided me with quite a valid excuse for a party, so now the obsession with balloons I've had of late, well at least with pictures of them, has resulted in 100 filled with helium floating in my living room. Glee!

I've been totally inspired by this rather Jeurgen Teller for Marc Jacobs-ey campaign from United Bamboo. The campaign stars artist Terrence Koh, who besides his art is known for his love of this particular Fendi coat, I personally am quite enamoured with the pretty crepe and tinsel decorations behind him. I spotted this ad in the last issue of The Journal (which features an excellent Jeurgen shoot with Pamela Anderson, Vivienne Westwood and Andreas Kronthaler, and an interview with Ol' Dirty Bastard's M0m), and finally have a good reason to get crafty and rip them off... Will update with pictures next week, if they turn out pretty.

This campaign was shot by Marcelo Krasilcic, with set design by Confetti System

***Update*** Here are some far less attractive photos of my plagiarised streamers...
