oh I wish

Perfect: no make up (jealous), cheek bones, relaxed hair without a massive fringe, vintage jacket, brown silk shirt, vintage belt, blue velvet pants. Man.

in dreams

On Sunday I found a book called Dreams. It was a small hard cover, second edition, published in the sixties. The cover was pale blue and Dreams was embossed on the centre in gold. Dreams was a study about dreams, surprisingly enough, undertaken by an American Ivy League professor. There were chapters on the act of dreaming, how you know if you're awake or asleep, bad dreams, waking dreams; I wish I could remember more specific details about it. I couldn't afford to buy Dreams at the time, but I think I need to own it.

crisp white sheets

I washed all my sheets today, ironed them, folded them. If I had some lavender to hand, I'd pop some in my pillow. Is there anything better than crisp white cotton? French Connection's 1972 Vintage collection makes me think of crisp white sheets.

'69

I love these Life images of American students in 1969, which I pinched from today's This Recording. My parents have quite a few old Life Magazine books which enthralled me when I was little.

Enrico Caruso

I love listening to very old musical recordings. Enrico Caruso's rendition of "Una furtiva lagrima" from L'elisir d'amour, recorded in 1904 at Carnegie Hall, sounds impossibly romantic.

tip my hat

Winter is coming and I have a cold head.
This means that I require a hat. After discovering the joys of a wide brimmed straw hat over summer, I want a winter version. It has to have a wide-ish brim, but not to the point of the American Apparel floppy ones. I want it to be pert with a hint of cowgirl, made of felt and structured. In short, I want this:

And I will dedicate this lunch break to finding a vintage one, as opposed to the Kenzo hats pictured. I don't know why I bother writing things about the things I like, I may as well just shout "ANNIEHALLALIMCGRAWANGELICAHUSTON70SBEIGEKATHERINEROSS". This is funny because I don't really dress like them at all. Photos from jak and jil and my archives.

yes, please

Han and I both love patterns, lately particularly those of a native and south american ilk, so I was super happy to see that the current wall on Supermarket Sarah is a collaboration with Patternity, an awesome London based studio specialising in pattern design and application. They have a fantastic blog filled with patterney pictures, and besides Supermarket Sarah, have collaborated with lots of other people to create crazy beautiful headpieces, prints, furniture and nail art.
Available at the moment on Supermarket Sarah are Patternity's own tights and canvas totes, as well as a whole bunch of fashion, art, and random vintage goodies collected from all over the place. Han I thought you might like this bag.
Sarah Bagner sells a whole range of awesome vintage and one off designer pieces on her website and at a stall in Portobello Markets. For the website she curates items by theme or colour and photographs them all on a wall of her house. It's a totally different style of online retailing and results in fun photographs of well thought out collections of things, just about all of which I now want to own.
A print I am especially eager for, which is still available from a past wall curated in collaboration with Fred Butler, in celebration of London Fashion Week. The artist made this the night Michael Jackson died, special. Want want want want.

karekare

These are pictures I took of the beach from my really shitty cell phone.

Today we went to Savemart and I got a T Shirt with a crude picture of Mel Gibson as Braveheart on it, with the entire "THEY WILL NEVER TAKE OUR FREEDOM" speech on the back; some tiny old man pants with front pleats that end at my ankles; and a peachy beige shirt because I love neutral tones.

Then we went to Karekare beach which is near Piha for those of you not in the know. It has black sand and is surrounded by amazing hilly forests and huge rock things. The surf was fun and there trenches in the sand so it would go really deep then mega shallow which was fun/dangerous. Now I'm off to drink cider in a park.

want

In February I'm going to a wedding in a forest and I think I'll need some kind of pretty vintage dress I can get muddy in.
And some peach nailpolish.
